GET INVOLVED
The Siouxland Coalition Against Human Trafficking (SCAHT) is currently meeting via Google Meets at 6 PM on the second Tuesday of each month (except June & December).
END THE DEMAND FOR TRAFFICKING
In the marketplace, everyone understands the principle of supply and demand. In the world of human trafficking, the same principle applies. The demand for sex trafficking comes from people who buy sex! Traffickers will continue to supply that demand for girls, boys, women and men by exploiting them to make a profit. YOU can help put an end to this. Please see below for multiple ways you can become involved.
The Defenders’ Pledge
Take a stand by making a pledge with Shared Hope International. Register your pledge here. We encourage you to check out their other resources as well.
Today, I am making a commitment in my life to demonstrate the following before my family and friends:
I am taking a stand to fight against pornography, stripping, prostitution or any form of the commercial sex industry.
I will continually educate and challenge both myself and all those around me about the negative effects of our words and actions toward victims of sexual exploitation.
I will take immediate action to protect those I love from this destructive market.
TRUCKERS AGAINST TRAFFICKING
Their MAN-TO-MAN CAMPAIGN is geared to men of all walks of life. It includes information that you can use as an individual as well as material you can use for a men’s group. There is even a component for businesses and corporations.
If you are interested in starting or participating in a group looking to End Demand, please let us know at scahtinc@gmail.com.
FIGHT SEX & PORN ADDICTIONS
If you are looking for help with a sex or porn addiction in Siouxland, you can contact:
Siouxland Mental Health Center (712) 252-3871
or Catholic Charities (712) 252-4547
or Heartland Counseling (402) 494-3337
If you’re wondering how porn ties into human trafficking, see our Resources page.
THE RED SAND PROJECT
The Red Sand project is a participatory group project to raise awareness of the issue of human trafficking. It’s been used in some Siouxland schools and would be good for church youth groups—or any group of 15 or more—who want to call attention to the problem.
A small bag of red sand is given to each participant to spread in cracks in the sidewalk or parking lot of a designated area. The sand reminds people of the victims of human trafficking who often "fall through the cracks.”
The Siouxland Coalition against Human Trafficking would be happy to provide information and resources to help inform your group about human trafficking and to work with you on planning the project. For more information, go to redsandproject.org or contact the coalition at scahtinc@gmail.com.
SPREAD THE WORD
Help us raise awareness of human trafficking and how to prevent it. We're looking for people to put posters or stickers in public places (with permission, of course).
We’re happy to supply you with these or our brochures with information. Please contact us at scahtinc@gmail.com & help us raise awareness.
IOWA BUSINESSES AGAINST TRAFFICKING
After you complete the brief application form, you’ll be recognized as an official IBAT partner with a certificate and window cling for your business.
As part of IBAT, you’ll receive access to trainings and resources that can help you learn more about the impacts of human trafficking in our state. Completion of this training is required for continued IBAT membership.
