Movies often over-dramatize or otherwise skew the perception on sensitive topics. With the recent launch of the movie Sound of Freedom, you may wonder how accurate human trafficking is portrayed. What does it actually look like in my hometown? Are there differences?
If you haven’t seen the movie, you may still have questions about human trafficking and what it looks like in Siouxland. Or does it even happen here? (Spoiler alert, it does). It’s a sensitive subject that doesn’t receive much light and clear answers can be hard to find.
No matter your questions, we’re here to answer them!
You are invited to join us on Sunday, September 24 at 2:00 in the Wilbur Aalfs library's Gleeson Room. We will first look at human trafficking here and any parallels/differences to the movie Sound of Freedom. This will be followed by a panel of local advocates and law enforcement from SafePlace, Haven House, Lila Mae's House and the Sioux City Police Dept. They will talk about what they are see, do, and how you can help.
