January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention month. Traditionally, we have asked area city and county governments to issue a proclamation recognizing it as such. This year, we are pleased that 12 governments from the tri-state area have issued these proclamations. They are: Woodbury, Sioux, Lyon, Monona and Plymouth counties in Iowa; Sioux City, Rock Valley, Sergeant Bluff and Paulina in Iowa; Dakota county in Nebraska and South Sioux City, Nebraska, and Union county, South Dakota and North Sioux City, South Dakota.
The Siouxland Community Health Center (see picture above) also acknowledged the month on their electronic billboard.
And, new this year, the Warrior Hotel and People’s Bank in Sioux City and Flippin’ Vintage boutique and thrift store in Sergeant Bluff lit up in blue for the occasion!
